With local running races being postponed and canceled, I signed up for the OneNY virtual challenge to run a 1000K over the course of the next 108 days. That is just over 621 miles, averaging 44 miles per week, and about 6 miles per day.
I decided to make this challenge a bit more interesting and a lot more rewarding for our community. During these uncertain times we are left wondering how we can help. While not everyone has the means to make an immediate impact on our community's small businesses and end hunger, each one of us can do something small. Small acts add up and enough small acts can leave a huge lasting mark on our community. Each day I logged miles with a sponsor from a local business. I represented them by sporting their swag whether it be a shirt or a hat. While highlighting local small businesses, I hoped to support our local community and contribute to help end hunger locally. Just $1 provides three meals to our local hungry, elderly and children. At the end of the challenge, I was able to hand over nearly $13,000 to the Food Bank of Central New York.
